Does anybody have experience with putting a diesel in a muscle car?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I would like to build a big muscle car, like a 1969 Charger, with a modified 5.9L Cummins turbo diesel. I have seen modified diesel pickups that run 12s in the 1/4, get 20 mpg, and are driven every day. I imagine that I could do the same with a Cummins powered Charger. Has anybody seen one or even heard of one? How difficult of a task would it be?

i have seen it done with a 5.9 liter cummins in a 1970 monte carlo. as long as you have the donor vehicle that the motor came out of shouldnt be too bad. regarless of what you use you will have a lot of custom fab work to do with getting guages working if you use the original guages in the car. just use the motor and transmission and you will have to have some custom mounts made for it. i would get a bigger rear end for the charger. something equivelant to a dana 60 and put some highway friendly higher gears in it. something like a 3.08 to 1. you will need the bigger rear end to handle the torque. i would also put heavier rear springs in it and traction bars. you will also have to have a custom drive shaft made for it even if you use the original rear end. whether you use a cummins in the dodge charger or a duramax, or a powerstroke, none of these will just simply drop right in. none of these motors ever originally came in the car, so its gonna be some work.
whether you go with a v8 diesel or inline 6 it will be some work but one thing to remember is the inline 6 diesel from cummins makes its power at a lower rpm… a good thing , mroe torque at lower rpm. this is due to its longer stroke than the v8’s

Where can I hire a muscle car to drive Route 66?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Next year I want to drive the legendary Route 66 from Chicago to LA. I don’t want any old car, I want something special. I doesn’t necessarily need to be an old car but it does need to be a muscle car. Where can I hire one?

Sounds like fun! Don’t listen to killjoys! Enjoy and be safe!

Would you drive a classic muscle car if it has been converted?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Assuming it is safe and mechanically sound, would you drive a classic muscle car like a 1966 or 1967 Mustang if it has been converted from a gasoline to either an all electric or to a hybrid gasoline electric? The bodies are in very good shape, and the interiors are in good condition, appropriately dated to the late 60’s era.

I’d like to know why or why not.

that kinda ruins the aspect of driving a Muscle car. might as well drive a prius

What’s the best muscle car to start with for a beginner?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I’m taking a survey for a class and the question is: What’s the best muscle car for someone to buy as their first muscle car and why? No rules. Any year. Any make. Any model.

I would say a second generation (1970-1981) Camaro or Trans Am. They are very easy to find, cheap and still have good power. Especially for a beginner you don’t want a 69 or anything worth alot of money. But it still has to be a muscle car no no V6’s. They never have and never will be considered a muscle car. A muscle car is a car with two doors and a very good power to weight ratio.

Music Video Muscle Car by Mylo

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Yup, that’s me, Alex Liang, in Mylo’s dance hit ‘Muscle Car’ music video, together with my ‘boss’ Bruce Wang. Bruce actually can’t speak a word of Chinese at all (he was born here in the UK) – and he’s speaking gibberish. A very contraversial video indeed, and what a project to work on! http://alexliangwebsite.tripod.com

How to make my Truck sound like a muscle car?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I have a 6.0L LQ4 in my silverado and i want to get that deep rumble like a muscle car but i dont want just sound from the exhaust i want it from the engine.
Would performance headers do the trick or is thier more to it?

headers will give the engine more of a choppier sound, but the best way to deepen the sound of your truck is to go with bigger diameter exhaust(ex.go to three inch exhaust pipe).also, the old type "cherry bomb"mufflers have a louder, deeper tone, and are WAY cheaper than flow masters.

How much would it cost to have someone else restore a muscle car from the ground up?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I don’t know that much about cars and car parts. What I do know is that I love muscle cars and have always wanted one. I do not want to use it as a collectors item. I want to drive the hell out of it. How much would it cost to take a piece of junk car, with no rust, and turn it into a beautifully painted and fast machine? This mean new interior, new paint, and new engine. I love the old chevys like chevelle and camaro

Well, you can spend as much money as possible. A basic starter budget is $25,000-30,000 but you can easily go much much higher. If you have a rare muscle car you want restored to perfection, it is easy to spend $100,000 or more on the job.

Seriously, you are much better off buying a car that has been restored. Its a lot cheaper and all you have to do is maintain the car and enjoy it. Lots of people spend $100,000 on a restoration but only get $40,000-75,000 when they go to sell it. Watch the Barrett-Jackson auction on Speed channel, or the Mecum auction on HD Theater Channel.
