New collector cars?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Due to the overinflated prices of musclecars do you think that Cars made after 1972 will become collectable? One thing they do have is v8 and rear wheel drive and they are cheap. but some are sure ugly. What do you think?

If you mean collectable as in a ‘69 Camaro/Mustang/Cuda collectable, then no. Outside of the ’70s Firebirds, Camaros, and Corvettes, none of them will ever have any real value. The V8 rear wheel drive aspect and cheap price will keep some of them from the junkyard to be used on the dragstrip. In my opinion, a collectable would need to have some level of innovation and uniqueness that would make them stand out from the crowd. I just don’t see that in the ’70s crowd.

I will say that some of the foreign cars will continue to be collectable such as the 240/280Zs and other sporty imports. They have always had a reasonable following and should continue to through the years.

How can I esablish a more acurate loan value for my collector car?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

What I am looking for is similar to how a bank would finance you 30K for a 1960’s car that the "book" says is worth nothing. Granted my car is not that old but it has so much invested in it that surely there must be a way for me to establish a credible loan value based on these things.

I actually I think you will find it quite difficult to get a loan value on something that is considered to be worth nothing…but good luck!

Will a 1998 Honda Prelude really become a collector car?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I know they are pretty rare, but I really don’t think they will turn out like a supra or rx-7. I’ve heard this from a few people tho.

Do you think it will hold it’s value for a while or end up cheaper like the 4th gens are?

They are more rare than S2000’s…go look at ebay motors…there are twice as many S2000s as there are Preludes and how many more Preludes were made over the 30 years they were produced?

They were never produced in limited quantities they were just bought in limited quantites and it was one of the few cars Honda still assembled in Japan. Thats why they stopped making them, nobody bought them.

The very first generation Preludes are making more money than i’d ever give for them…along with the Z600s…one that has been restored or origional in good shape is bringing 6k+ on ebay. I actually just sold my ‘98 Prelude because it had a ton of miles on it (185k actually) and when you see one with low miles they still want 12-14 thousand dollars for them…i think those cars, like the SH models, or just ones with low miles that are origional will be worth in 30 years what they are worth now. Just finding somebody that sees the value in an outdated overweight 30-year-old-Honda will be the trick.

I know if I was filthy rich I’d be collecting them

GM closing down Pontiac. What cars will be collector cars in the future? 20 years.?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Or do you think they’ll be like the Hudson?

Here’s the golden rule about collector cars…..

If they didn’t want it then – then they wont want it now….

Everybody wants a 69 Roadrunner….

Nobody wants a 69 Pacer…..

Everybody wants a 20 year old Corvette…..

Nobody wants a 20 year old pontiac Sunbird….

See the pattern here?………

Of course lots of folks will want a Pontiac GTO…..

Nobody wants a Pontiac station wagon………

Stick with collecting the Pontiac’s everybody wanted…. Firebirds, GTO’s and similar models…. Those will always get the money!
